Amphiprion akindynos
Origin: Eastern Australia, Coral Sea
Amphiprion akindynos, the Barrier Reef Clownfish, is endemic to Australia's east coast and the Coral Sea. It features a warm orange-brown body with two or three white bars and a distinctively white-tipped tail that sets it apart from similar species. Captive-bred specimens are becoming increasingly available and are strongly recommended over wild-caught individuals. Ideal for Australian-themed reef displays, it can be hosted by a variety of anemone species including Heteractis crispa and Entacmaea quadricolor.
House in a reef or FOWLR aquarium (minimum 100 L) with stable marine parameters (pH 8.1–8.4, SG 1.020–1.025, temperature 24–28°C). Provide an appropriate host anemone or substitute anemone-like structure. Feed varied omnivore diet: quality marine flake, frozen Mysis shrimp, and frozen Artemia. Keep as a mated pair; juveniles can be housed in groups that will form a social hierarchy. Reef-safe with corals and most invertebrates.
