Ancistrus sp.
Origin: South America (captive-bred)
Ancistrus sp. Albino, the Albino Bristlenose Pleco, is the most popular algae-eating pleco for community tanks. Its pale golden-white colouration and endearing bristle tentacles (males in particular) make it a favourite. Maxing out at 12–15 cm, it never outgrows average home aquariums and is peaceful with virtually all tankmates. A prolific cave-spawner; males are devoted fathers. Constantly grazes algae off glass, wood, and leaves.
Provide driftwood — essential for gut health (cellulose). Feed algae wafers, blanched courgette, and sinking pellets. Temperature 22–28 °C. Cave for breeding; male guards eggs. Easy to breed in well-conditioned pairs.
