Corydoras aeneus (albino var.)
Also known as: Albino Bronze Cory, Albino Cory, Albino Corydoras
Origin: Aquaculture (wild type: Trinidad, Venezuela, Colombia)
The Albino Bronze Cory is a selectively bred colour morph of Corydoras aeneus, the most widely kept cory in the hobby. Its pink-white body and vivid red eyes result from a lack of melanin pigmentation, yet it retains all the hardiness and adaptability that makes the species so popular. Aquaculture-raised specimens are extremely robust and make an excellent first cory for newcomers.
Like all Corydoras, this species is a social bottom-dweller that must be kept in groups of at least six. It spends most of its day sifting through the substrate for morsels of food, using its sensitive barbels to detect buried particles. A soft, fine substrate such as sand or smooth gravel is essential to protect those barbels from damage.
The Albino Bronze Cory is completely peaceful and can be combined with virtually any non-aggressive tankmate. It readily accepts a wide diet of sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, Daphnia, and micro-wafers. Regular partial water changes and a well-filtered, oxygenated tank are the keys to long-term success with this species.
Water: Soft to moderately hard, pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 22–26°C; tolerates a wide range due to aquaculture origin. Tank: Minimum 60 L with fine sand substrate, dim lighting, and plenty of hiding spots among driftwood and plants. Feeding: Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, Daphnia, and blanched vegetables offered once or twice daily. Breeding: Egg-scatterer; condition with live or frozen foods and a water change with slightly cooler water to trigger spawning. Compatibility: Ideal with small tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, and other peaceful community species; avoid aggressive or very large tankmates.
