Symphysodon spp.
Origin: Captive bred
The Albino Platinum Discus represents the pinnacle of selective discus breeding, combining the complete absence of melanin characteristic of true albinism with the refined platinum genetic line that produces the highly reflective, metallic sheen on the body. The result is a discus of extraordinary rarity — a pure, luminous metallic white body complemented by vivid red eyes that create a visually stunning contrast. The platinum genetics produce a smooth, mirror-like reflective quality to the white scales that catches light in a distinctive way, making this fish a centrepiece specimen in any discus aquarium. Its rarity in Belgium and Dutch stores means each specimen commands premium prices and represents a serious collector's acquisition.
Maintain at 28–31°C in soft, acidic water (pH 6.0–7.0, GH 0–6). Feed multiple small meals daily of high-quality discus food, frozen beef heart, and bloodworms. Perform daily or every-other-day water changes of 20–30% to maintain pristine conditions. Keep in groups of 5+ as discus are social and stressed alone. Due to albinism, this variety is more sensitive to bright light — provide shaded areas or diffused lighting.
