Apistogramma sp. 'Alto Madeira'
Also known as: Alto Madeira Apisto, Upper Madeira Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America
Apistogramma sp. Alto Madeira is collected from the upper reaches of the Madeira River in Brazil. Males are distinguished by bold lateral spotting and intensely coloured dorsal and caudal fins. Like most Apistogramma, they thrive in soft, slightly acidic water with plenty of cover.
Water: 25-29°C, pH 5.0-6.8, soft (GH 1-6); blackwater conditions preferred. Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, driftwood, leaf litter, dense planting. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen foods preferred; micro pellets and flake as supplement. Behaviour: territorial during spawning; harem setup works well (1M:2-3F). Compatibility: peaceful community with small tetras and Corydoras; avoid boisterous tankmates.
