Altolamprologus calvus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Altolamprologus calvus 'Black' is a fascinating and beautiful Tanganyikan cichlid with a steeply-sloped head profile and extreme lateral compression. This unique body form allows it to squeeze into narrow rock crevices to extract invertebrates and small fish. Slow-growing but very hardy and long-lived. An excellent display fish for Tanganyika biotopes.
Keep as a pair or harem in at least 120 L. Provide many rocks with narrow crevices. Hard, alkaline water essential. Feed quality cichlid pellets, frozen brine shrimp, and small live foods. Slow to grow; be patient. Relatively peaceful toward dissimilar species. Spawns in shells or narrow crevices.
