Caridina multidentata
Origin: Japan
Caridina multidentata — the Amano or Yamato shrimp — is the most effective shrimp algae controller available. Popularised by aquascape master Takashi Amano, it grazes on hair algae, thread algae, and leftover food with remarkable efficiency. Larger than Neocaridina, it is less vulnerable to being eaten by small fish. It requires brackish water to breed, so colony growth does not happen in freshwater tanks. One Amano shrimp per 10 litres is a good starting ratio for algae control.
pH 6.5–8.0. GH 6–12. 30+ L. Feed: algae, leftover food, algae wafers. 1 per 10 L for algae control. Cannot breed in freshwater. Very effective algae control.
