Apistogramma pertensis has a wide distribution across the central Amazon basin in Brazil, giving it exposure to a range of water conditions that has made it more adaptable than many congeners. Males show a neat lateral band and attractively coloured fins. This species is a solid choice for hobbyists entering the world of Apistogramma keeping.
Water: 24-29°C, pH 5.5-7.2, soft to moderately soft (GH 2-10). Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, caves, plants, and driftwood. Feeding: omnivore — varied live/frozen and quality dry foods. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; harem (1M:2-3F) or pairs both suitable. Compatibility: peaceful community with small tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras.
