Chromis amboinensis
Origin: Indo-West Pacific, Ambon to Great Barrier Reef
Chromis amboinensis, the Ambon Chromis, is a subtly attractive schooling damselfish from the Indo-West Pacific, displaying a pale yellow to white body with a distinctive dark spot above the pectoral fin base. It typically inhabits deeper reef slopes in the wild and is a calm, steady species that pairs well with corals, invertebrates, and other peaceful reef fish. Unlike many damselfish species it is relatively docile, making it a manageable and graceful addition to reef aquarium communities.
House in groups of 3 or more in a reef or FOWLR aquarium (minimum 100 L) with stable marine parameters (pH 8.1–8.4, SG 1.020–1.025, temperature 23–28°C). Feed varied omnivore diet: quality marine flake, frozen Mysis, frozen Artemia, and micro-pellets. Best displayed in schools where natural shoaling behaviour is expressed. Generally reef-safe with corals and invertebrates.
