Pterophyllum scalare
Origin: South America (cultivated variety)
The Marble Angelfish is a captive-bred colour variety of Pterophyllum scalare displaying an irregular patchwork pattern of black, white, and gold that resembles natural marble stone. The beauty of this variety lies in the uniqueness of each individual — no two Marble Angelfish have identical markings, making each specimen effectively a one-of-a-kind fish. The high-contrast marble pattern creates a dramatic visual effect on the tall, sail-like angelfish body, making it a collector's fish even for those who primarily keep standard community species. The marble patterning is produced by a specific pigmentation gene (the marble gene) that creates unpredictable pigment distribution. Care requirements are identical to other P. scalare varieties.
Identical care to other Pterophyllum scalare varieties. Provide a tall aquarium of at least 150 litres with tall plants and driftwood. Maintain stable water conditions and feed a varied high-quality diet. Perform regular water changes. Monitor for fin damage from more aggressive tankmates as the long flowing fins are a common target.
