Pimelodus pictus
Also known as: Angelicus Pimelodus, Spotted Pimelodus, Pictus Catfish
Origin: South America (Colombia, Peru, Brazil — Amazon basin)
Pimelodus pictus is one of the most popular Amazonian catfish in the hobby, widely known as the Spotted Pimelodus or Angelicus Catfish. Its silver body is covered in round black spots of varying sizes, and its long, trailing barbels give it an elegant, flowing appearance. It is a schooling species that is active and fast-moving, requiring spacious aquariums and robust tankmates.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 2–15). Tank: 200 L minimum; open swimming space; smooth décor to protect barbels and finnage. Feeding: Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, shrimp, and other meaty foods. Behaviour: Active schooler; keep 3+ together; may eat very small fish. Compatibility: Best with medium to large cichlids, larger tetras, and other robust community fish.
