Pterois antennata
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Antennata Lionfish (Pterois antennata) is a dramatically beautiful species from the Indo-Pacific, characterized by distinctive elongated tentacle-like appendages above its eyes and large, elaborately banded pectoral fins that are displayed when the fish is feeling threatened or hunting. More active and free-swimming than dwarf lionfish species, it makes a bold and visually commanding display fish in a large FOWLR setup. The dorsal, pelvic, and anal fin spines contain venom — handle only with extreme care using appropriate tools and never with bare hands.
House in a large FOWLR aquarium (minimum 300 L) with ample rockwork for resting and cover. Maintain stable marine parameters (pH 8.1–8.4, SG 1.020–1.025, temperature 23–27°C). Feed high-protein carnivore diet: live or frozen marine fish, large shrimp, and sinking carnivore pellets. Wean off live food onto frozen with patience using feeding sticks. Will consume any fish small enough to fit in its mouth. Never handle with bare hands.
