Apistogramma agassizii var.
Also known as: Blue Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid, Blue Apistogramma agassizii
Origin: South America (Amazon, Peru/Brazil)
Apistogramma agassizii Blue is a selectively enhanced strain displaying uniform blue-metallic body colouration with contrasting yellow and black fin accents in males. Like all A. agassizii, it originates from Amazonian blackwater systems and forms harems in the wild. Females are cryptically yellow-olive and guard nesting sites within caves or leaf litter.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.5-7.0, GH 1-8, KH 0-3; soft, slightly tannin-stained water enhances colour. Tank: 80L minimum; provide caves, driftwood, and dense plant cover. Feeding: Omnivore; varied diet of frozen foods and quality dwarf cichlid pellets. Behaviour: Males defend a territory; harem keeping (1M:2-3F) works well in larger tanks. Compatibility: Excellent with small characins, dwarf corydoras, and peaceful rasboras.
