Apistogramma agassizii var.
Also known as: Double Red Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid, Double Red Apistogramma
Origin: South America (Amazon, Peru/Brazil)
Apistogramma agassizii Double Red is a selectively bred strain of the classic Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid, with red colouration amplified across the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. Males are strikingly colourful while females remain yellow-olive for camouflage during breeding. Native to Amazonian blackwater streams, this species thrives in soft, acidic water with caves and leaf litter.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.5-7.0, GH 1-8, KH 0-3; soft blackwater conditions ideal. Tank: 80L minimum; provide coconut caves, driftwood, and floating plants for cover. Feeding: Omnivore; offer frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and quality micro-pellets daily. Behaviour: Males territorial to rival males; keep one male with 2-3 females in a harem setup. Compatibility: Peaceful with small tetras, rasboras, and corydoras; avoid large or aggressive species.
