Apistogramma cf. norberti
Also known as: Norberti Apistogramma, Violet Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America (Peru)
Apistogramma cf. norberti is a rarely traded species or close relative from Peruvian blackwaters, displaying an extraordinary blue-violet sheen across the flanks that is unique within the genus. The dark suborbital facial markings further distinguish it from all related species. As an extreme blackwater specialist, it demands very low mineral content and acidic conditions to maintain health and colour.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.0-6.5, GH 0-4, KH 0-1; near-RO soft acidic water essential. Tank: 80L minimum; heavy leaf litter, dark substrate, and tannin staining required. Feeding: Omnivore; live micro-foods strongly preferred; slow to adapt to dry diets. Behaviour: Peaceful and secretive; males display stunning colour when establishing dominance. Compatibility: Species tank or with very small, peaceful soft-water fish only.
