Apistogramma commbrae
Also known as: Corumba Apistogramma, Paraguay Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay basin)
Apistogramma commbrae originates from the Rio Paraguay basin in Argentina and Bolivia, making it one of the most southerly and cold-tolerant Apistogramma species. It adapts well to moderate water hardness and a wider pH range than most congeners. Males display a bold lateral stripe on an olive-yellow body with subtle blue iridescence on the fins.
Water: 22-27°C, pH 6.0-7.5, GH 5-15, KH 2-6; unusually adaptable for the genus. Tank: 60L minimum; caves and plant cover appreciated but less critical than for other species. Feeding: Omnivore; accepts flake, pellets, and frozen foods without issue. Behaviour: Mild-mannered; one of the least aggressive Apistogramma species overall. Compatibility: Excellent community fish; pairs well with a wide variety of peaceful species.
