Apistogramma iniridae
Also known as: Inirida Apistogramma, Rio Inirida Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America (Colombia, Rio Inirida)
Apistogramma iniridae is native to the extreme blackwaters of the Rio Inirida in Colombia, one of the most pristine river systems in South America. Males in prime condition display an extraordinary combination of blue body iridescence, orange-yellow fins, and a fully developed lyre tail. It is a demanding species that will not thrive unless very soft, very acidic water is maintained consistently.
Water: 25-29°C, pH 4.5-6.5, GH 0-4, KH 0-1; strict blackwater maintenance essential. Tank: 60L minimum; peat filtration, heavy tannin staining, and leaf litter critical. Feeding: Omnivore; live artemia nauplii, copepods, and micro-worms strongly preferred. Behaviour: Peaceful but males competitive for prime cave sites. Compatibility: Species tank or with other extreme soft-water obligate fish only.
