Apistogramma kullanderi
Also known as: Kullanderi's Dwarf Cichlid, Giant Apistogramma
Origin: South America (Brazil, Rio Tapajos)
Apistogramma kullanderi is one of the largest members of the genus, with males reaching over 10 cm in length, originating from the Rio Tapajos in Brazil. Despite its larger size, it is a true Apistogramma in behaviour and reproductive strategy, forming harems and spawning in caves. Males develop spectacular elongated dorsal and caudal fin extensions and display vivid yellow-red colouration with bold black facial markings.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.5-7.0, GH 1-10, KH 0-4; soft to moderately soft conditions preferred. Tank: 100L minimum for a single pair; larger for harems; caves and heavy decoration essential. Feeding: Omnivore; accepts a broad range of live, frozen, and quality dry foods. Behaviour: Males larger than females and dominant; moderately aggressive during breeding. Compatibility: Keep with medium-sized, robust, peaceful species; avoid small nano fish.
