Apistogramma luelingi
Also known as: Lueling's Dwarf Cichlid, Bolivian Banded Apistogramma
Origin: South America (Bolivia)
Apistogramma luelingi is a rarely exported species from Bolivia with a striking black-and-yellow banded body pattern unique within the genus. The blue highlights on the dorsal and caudal fins contrast beautifully with the warm body colouration. It requires soft, slightly acidic water and is best kept by experienced hobbyists familiar with Apistogramma husbandry.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.5-7.0, GH 1-8, KH 0-3; soft conditions bring out best colouration. Tank: 80L minimum; caves, driftwood, and fine-leaved plants essential. Feeding: Omnivore; frozen and live small invertebrates alongside quality micro-pellets. Behaviour: Males territorial but manageable; females assertive cave-guarders. Compatibility: Pairs well with small, peaceful soft-water fish.
