Apistogramma payaminonis
Also known as: Payamino Apistogramma, Ecuador Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America (Ecuador, Rio Payamino)
Apistogramma payaminonis originates from the Rio Payamino system in the Ecuadorian Amazon, an infrequently collected locality that makes this species a genuine rarity in the hobby. Males display a yellow-green body with brilliant blue iridescence on the dorsal and caudal fins, and a strong dark lateral stripe. It thrives in soft, slightly acidic conditions and is a reliable cave spawner with typical harem-forming behaviour.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.0-6.8, GH 1-8, KH 0-3; soft acidic Amazonian water conditions. Tank: 80L minimum; caves, driftwood, and plant cover create natural security. Feeding: Omnivore; frozen bloodworms, artemia, and quality micro-pellets accepted. Behaviour: Males establish harems; females take sole cave-guarding duties after spawning. Compatibility: Peaceful with small tetras, pencilfish, and corydoras.
