Apistogramma rubrolineata
Also known as: Red-striped Apistogramma, Rubrolineata Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America (Bolivia, Brazil)
Apistogramma rubrolineata is found in Bolivia and western Brazil, and is immediately recognisable by the vivid red horizontal stripes that run along the flanks of dominant males — a pattern unusual among Apistogramma species. It thrives in soft to moderately soft water and is considered one of the more robust species in the genus, making it accessible to intermediate keepers.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.5-7.0, GH 1-10, KH 0-4; red colouration most vivid in soft acidic water. Tank: 80L minimum; caves, plants, and driftwood provide natural structure. Feeding: Omnivore; varied frozen and live foods alongside quality cichlid pellets. Behaviour: Males defend territories but are not excessively aggressive outside spawning. Compatibility: Works well with tetras, corydoras, and other peaceful community fish.
