Apistogramma sp. 'Rotflossen'
Also known as: Red-finned Apistogramma, Rotflossen Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America (Brazil)
Apistogramma sp. 'Rotflossen', meaning 'red fins' in German, is an undescribed species traded from blackwater localities in Brazil. The vivid crimson edging on the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins is the defining feature of dominant males. Like most blackwater Apistogramma, it requires soft, acidic water and a richly decorated aquarium to express its full potential.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.0-6.8, GH 1-6, KH 0-2; soft blackwater essential for colour development. Tank: 80L minimum; caves, driftwood, and leaf litter provide necessary cover. Feeding: Omnivore; live artemia and frozen bloodworms aid conditioning and colour. Behaviour: Males defend territories with fin displays; females independent brood-guarders. Compatibility: Ideal with small soft-water tetras; avoid competitive or nippy species.
