Pomacea bridgesii
Origin: South America
Blue Apple Snails (Pomacea bridgesii var.) carry a striking blue-grey shell and body colouration that looks stunning in a well-lit aquarium. Like all Pomacea bridgesii variants they are plant-safe and feed primarily on decaying organic matter and algae. Active and personable, they regularly ascend to the surface to breathe atmospheric air.
Keep in groups of 2 or more. Provide a calcium-rich diet (blanched vegetables, cuttlebone) to maintain shell integrity. Ensure the tank lid is secure — apple snails are excellent escape artists. Avoid copper-based treatments which are lethal. pH above 7.0 prevents shell erosion. Separate from fish that may nip at their antennae.
