Apteronotus albifrons
Also known as: White Ghost Knifefish, White Ghost, Albino Black Ghost
Origin: South America
Apteronotus albifrons white-form — known commercially as the White Ghost Knifefish — refers to leucistic or naturally pale morph Black Ghost specimens selectively bred or occasionally found in trade. Care requirements are identical to the standard Black Ghost: wave-type electric organ discharge, highly sensitive to water quality, strictly nocturnal, and requiring PVC tube hides large enough to fully enter. The white coloration makes it stand out dramatically in a dark-substrate setup. It remains peaceful toward dissimilar fish but must not be kept with other knifefish. Requires pristine, well-oxygenated, slightly acidic water.
Water: 23-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard; very clean and well-oxygenated. Tank: Minimum 300L; PVC tubes or bamboo hides; fine sand; low lighting; dark substrate preferred. Feeding: Carnivore; live/frozen bloodworms, blackworms, brine shrimp, earthworm pieces; night feeder. Breeding: Rarely documented; lays eggs on flat surfaces; specialist breeding effort required. Compatibility: Peaceful with dissimilar species; must not be housed with other knifefish.
