Laetacara araguaiae
Also known as: Araguaia Smiling Acara, Araguaia Acara, Laetacara araguaiae
Origin: South America
Laetacara araguaiae was only formally described relatively recently from the Araguaia River system in central Brazil. It closely resembles L. curviceps but is distinguished by more vivid turquoise-blue iridescence on its flanks and a slightly different body shape. It is equally peaceful and community-compatible and breeds readily in aquarium conditions.
Water: 23-29°C, pH 5.5-7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 3-15); adaptable. Tank: 80L minimum, sand substrate, caves, moderate planting. Feeding: omnivore — varied live/frozen and quality dry foods; easy to feed. Behaviour: peaceful; mild territorial behaviour during spawning; stable pairs. Compatibility: excellent community fish; pairs well with tetras, Corydoras, and similar peaceful species.
