Belonoperca chabanaudi
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Belonoperca chabanaudi is a small boldly patterned soapfish with a distinctive arrowhead silhouette and brown-cream marbling. It produces grammistin toxin when stressed, which can harm or kill tankmates in a closed system. Best kept in a dedicated predator reef with larger, robust species.
House only with larger robust fish that won't stress this species. Any stress triggers grammistin release — ensure excellent water quality, no harassment, and adequate hiding places. Feed meaty marine foods: silversides, krill, small whole prey items. Not reef-safe with small fish or shrimp.
