Scleropages formosus

Origin: Southeast Asia
Scleropages formosus is an endangered species protected under CITES Appendix I, and specimens sold commercially must originate from approved breeding facilities with full documentation. Colour varieties include Red, Super Red, Green, and Crossback Gold, commanding prices from hundreds to thousands of euros. It requires an enormous aquarium and highly experienced husbandry.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.5-7.5, soft to moderately hard; pristine water quality essential. Tank: Minimum 600L, very long footprint, extremely heavy lid, minimal décor to reduce stress injury. Feeding: Carnivore; large insects, prawns, fish strips, quality arowana floating pellets. Behaviour: Aggressive surface predator; highly territorial with other arowana or similar top-level fish. Compatibility: Solitary or with large robust bottom-dwellers; never mix with other arowana.
