Clea helena
Also known as: Assassin Snail, Bumblebee Snail
Origin: Southeast Asia
Clea helena is a predatory freshwater snail originally from Southeast Asia, prized for its ability to control populations of Physa, Melanoides, and Ramshorn snails. It features a distinctive cone-shaped shell with cream and brown banding and reaches around 3cm. A peaceful addition to most community tanks, it will not harm fish, shrimp, or healthy plants.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water with good calcium levels for shell health. Tank: Minimum 40L with a soft sandy substrate it can partially burrow into; provide caves and leaf litter. Feeding: Primarily hunts pest snails; supplement with sinking protein wafers or blanched protein when snail prey is scarce. Behaviour: Slow-moving and mostly active at night; will not bother fish, shrimp, or aquatic plants. Compatibility: Safe with most community fish and dwarf shrimp; do not keep with snail-eating fish like pufferfish.
