Clea helena
Origin: Southeast Asia
Clea helena, the Assassin Snail, is a natural and highly effective biological control for pest snail outbreaks (Melanoides, Physa, Planorbis). Its attractive striped yellow-and-brown conical shell disguises a ruthless predator that stalks and consumes other snails. It will not harm fish, shrimp (except tiny fry), or plants. Assassin Snails breed slowly in freshwater aquariums and do not become pests themselves. Sold in a 5-pack for effective tank-wide coverage.
No special care needed. Any freshwater setup with good water quality. Temperature 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0. Feed on pest snails; supplement with sinking meaty foods (shrimp pellets, bloodworm) when pest populations decline. Do not use with tiny snail species you wish to keep.
