Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Origin: Captive bred
Baby Koi Mixed at 5–8cm represent the exciting beginning of a koi keeper's journey with individual fish. At this size, the koi are actively growing and their final colour patterns are beginning to emerge and become defined — some patterns that appear initially may fade or intensify unpredictably as the fish develops, making each small koi a daily source of anticipation and surprise. Mixed batches contain a variety of colour varieties and pattern types, providing the keeper with an assortment of fish at accessible prices. These juveniles should be placed in an established pond with mature filtration capable of handling increasing bioload as the fish grow. Young koi are somewhat more sensitive to water quality than established adults and require careful attention to filtration and water chemistry during their first months.
House in an established pond of at least 500 litres with mature biological filtration. Feed a quality koi growth food several times daily during warm months — young koi have high metabolic demands to support their rapid early growth. Monitor water quality closely during the first season. Provide areas of shade to reduce heat stress. As fish grow, upgrade filtration capacity and pond size accordingly.
