Badis badis
Origin: India, Bangladesh, Nepal
Badis badis, the Badis or Blue Perch, is a fascinating small perciform fish from South Asian rivers. Its remarkable ability to rapidly change body colour from grey-brown to vivid blue and red when displaying — earning it the nickname 'Chameleon Fish'. A cave spawner where the male guards eggs vigorously. Males become territorial but are only aggressive toward conspecifics. Best kept as a pair in a species tank or nano setup without highly active fin-nippers. An understated gem of the freshwater hobby.
Pair in 40+ L tank with caves. Temperature 18–24 °C (tolerates cool). Neutral to slightly acidic water. Feed exclusively live or frozen foods: daphnia, bloodworm, brine shrimp — will not accept dry foods. Males territorial over cave; provide multiple caves for multiple males.
