Balitora cf. brucei
Also known as: Balitora Hillstream Loach, Stone Sucker Loach
Origin: India, Myanmar
This Balitora cf. brucei specimen closely resembles B. brucei but represents a geographically distinct population from Myanmar or northeastern India, where Balitora diversity is highest. It is a broad-bodied, robust gastromyzontid with excellent adhesive capabilities and fine reticulated patterning. A reliable grazer of diatoms and biofilm in high-flow hillstream setups, it suits intermediate hillstream aquarists stepping up from Sewellia.
Water: 18-24°C, pH 6.5-7.5, moderately hard, cool and highly oxygenated. Tank: Minimum 80 L, smooth river boulders, open flow channels, powerhead. Feeding: Biofilm and algae; supplement sinking algae wafers and spirulina. Behaviour: Active grazer on rock and glass surfaces; retreats under boulders to rest. Compatibility: Peaceful; suitable with medium hillstream community fish.
