Chaetodontoplus ballinae
Origin: Eastern Australia
The Ballina Angelfish is an extremely rare species from subtropical eastern Australian waters, rarely collected and seldom available in the trade. It has a distinctive white anterior blending into a dark posterior, complemented by a yellow facial mask. Its subtropical preference and rarity make it a significant challenge to source and keep.
Requires cooler water (20–24 °C) than most marine fish — chiller is often necessary. Provide ample live rock for grazing natural sponge and algal growth. Feed a varied omnivore diet: nori, mysis, sponge-based pellets. Semi-aggressive; keep as sole angelfish specimen. Not for novice marine aquarists.
