Atyopsis moluccensis
Origin: Southeast Asia
Atyopsis moluccensis — the bamboo or wood shrimp — is a large (8 cm) freshwater shrimp that feeds by holding out fan-like forelegs to catch suspended food particles from the water current. It positions itself in front of filter outlets or in current-bearing areas. This feeding behaviour is extremely entertaining to observe. It requires well-established tanks with good biological activity to provide sufficient particulate food. Supplement with powdered shrimp food if needed.
pH 6.5–8.0. 60+ L with moderate flow (for filter-feeding). Established tank with fine particulate food. Supplement: powdered spirulina, Bacter AE. Very peaceful — good community shrimp.
