Gnatholebias zonatus is an annual killifish from seasonal pools in the lowlands of Bolivia and western Brazil. Males are distinctive with bold, dark vertical bands across a yellow-green body, giving them a wasp-like appearance unique among South American annuals. The species is rarely available in trade and demands the full annual killifish protocol, including careful peat egg incubation and diapause management.
Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.0, soft and slightly acidic. Tank: 40 L species tank; peat or fine sand substrate; very tight-fitting lid. Feeding: Live and frozen Daphnia, Artemia, blood worm; dried foods rarely taken. Behaviour: Males aggressive to rivals; one male per tank. Compatibility: Species tank only.
