About

Gnatholebias zonatus is an annual killifish from seasonal pools in the lowlands of Bolivia and western Brazil. Males are distinctive with bold, dark vertical bands across a yellow-green body, giving them a wasp-like appearance unique among South American annuals. The species is rarely available in trade and demands the full annual killifish protocol, including careful peat egg incubation and diapause management.

Care Guide

Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.0, soft and slightly acidic. Tank: 40 L species tank; peat or fine sand substrate; very tight-fitting lid. Feeding: Live and frozen Daphnia, Artemia, blood worm; dried foods rarely taken. Behaviour: Males aggressive to rivals; one male per tank. Compatibility: Species tank only.
