Hemichromis fasciatus
Origin: West Africa (Senegal to Congo)
Hemichromis fasciatus, the Banded Jewelfish, is a large and colourful West African cichlid displaying rows of iridescent turquoise spots on a vivid red body during breeding coloration. More aggressive than the common Jewel Cichlid, it requires a species-specific or robust community setup. Excellent parental care.
Keep as a mated pair or alone; highly aggressive toward conspecifics. Requires at least 200 L for a pair. Provide large rocks, caves, and robust or no plants. Feed meaty foods: earthworms, large pellets, frozen shrimp. Water hardness is flexible. Excellent parents — form tightly bonded pairs.
