Epiplatys fasciolatus
Also known as: Banded Panchax, Fasciolatus Killifish
Origin: West Africa
Epiplatys fasciolatus is a surface-dwelling killifish found across the coastal forests of West Africa from Sierra Leone to Nigeria. Its slender, pointed body bears subtle dark vertical bars that give rise to its common name. Unlike many killifish, it is relatively peaceful toward other species of similar size and can work in a larger soft-water community aquarium, provided the lid is escape-proof.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 40 L with floating plants for security; very tight-fitting lid essential. Feeding: Live and frozen insects, Daphnia, Artemia; dried foods accepted. Behaviour: Males occasionally spar at the surface; generally peaceful with other species. Compatibility: Can keep with robust, peaceful fish of similar size; avoid tiny nano fish.
