Corydoras metae
Origin: Colombia (Río Meta basin)
The Bandit Corydoras is a charming schooling catfish named for the striking black mask across its eyes and a bold black saddle over its caudal peduncle, contrasting with its pale pinkish-silver body. Native to the Río Meta basin in Colombia, it inhabits shallow sandy areas with leaf litter and prefers soft, slightly acidic water. It is peaceful and sociable, making it ideal for community aquariums with fine sand substrate. Best kept in groups of six or more.
Provide fine sand substrate as Corydoras forage with sensitive barbels that are easily damaged by gravel. Maintain good filtration and regular water changes. Keep in groups of at least 6. Feed sinking wafers, frozen bloodworms, and other small meaty foods. Avoid sharp decorations. Sensitive to poor water quality and salt.
