About

Pterapogon kauderni — the Banggai cardinalfish — is an elegant, peaceful fish with long, ornate fins bearing white spots and black stripes. It is a critically endangered endemic to a small area of Indonesia and should only be purchased as captive-bred stock. Tank-bred Banggai are now widely available. Males are mouthbrooders. This species forms long-term pairs and is one of the few marine fish that can breed successfully in home aquariums. Reef-safe with most corals.

Care Guide

ONLY purchase captive-bred specimens. Light: any. Flow: moderate. Feed: mysis, small meaty foods. Keep in pairs or groups. Mouthbrooder — breeding possible in aquaria.
