Rasbora bankanensis
Also known as: Bangka Rasbora
Origin: Bangka Island, Indonesia
Rasbora bankanensis is a modestly sized, slender rasbora known from the blackwater streams and forest rivers of Bangka Island, Indonesia. It inhabits extremely soft, acidic, tannin-stained water and its natural range is restricted to this single island. As an island endemic, it is of particular interest to biotope enthusiasts and conservationists. In the aquarium it does well with other Bangka or Sumatran blackwater species.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 5.0–6.5, very soft acidic water required (GH 1–8). Tank: 60 L minimum; blackwater botanicals, leaf litter, gentle flow, dark substrate. Feeding: Omnivore — micro pellets, flake, live or frozen small invertebrates. Behaviour: Peaceful schooler; keep 8+ for natural group dynamics. Compatibility: Best with other Bangka or Sumatran blackwater species.
