Barbus barbus (Barbel) is a native European river fish with a streamlined body and distinctive four barbels. A rheophilic species requiring strong water movement. Suitable for large cold-water tanks and very large, well-oxygenated ponds.
Care Guide
pH 7.0–8.5, temp 4–20°C. Requires strong oxygenation and flow. Heavy bottom-dwelling feeder. Large, needs minimum 500L tank or large pond. Protected in Belgium — legal to keep captive-bred specimens only.
