Chilatherina fasciata
Also known as: Barred Rainbowfish
Origin: Papua New Guinea (highlands)
Chilatherina fasciata is native to highland streams and rivers of Papua New Guinea, where it inhabits clear, well-oxygenated, moderately cool water. The bold vertical barring is a distinguishing feature of the Chilatherina genus. Like its close relative C. bleheri, it benefits from slightly cooler temperatures and strong water movement to thrive.
Water: 20–25°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard, well-oxygenated. Tank: 150 L+, good water movement and oxygenation; plants and open swimming areas. Feeding: Omnivore; varied diet of flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; best kept with cooler-water species. Compatibility: Best with other highland rainbowfish and cool-water community fish.
