Parathelphusa sp. "Batik"
Also known as: Batik Crab
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Parathelphusa sp. 'Batik' is a fully aquatic freshwater crab from Sulawesi featuring a complex tessellated pattern across its carapace reminiscent of Indonesian batik fabric. It shares the Sulawesi biotope requirements of related species and is best kept in a warm, mineral-rich species tank. Its striking appearance makes it a prized collector's item.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 7.5–8.5; Sulawesi mineral salts required to replicate native lake chemistry. Tank: Minimum 60L with ample caves, smooth rocks, and fine substrate for burrowing. Feeding: Sinking pellets, dried bloodworm, blanched greens, and meaty protein supplements. Behaviour: Territorial and secretive; primarily active at night; requires secure hides. Compatibility: Species-only or with other robust Sulawesi species; not safe with shrimp.
