Clithon sp. 'Batik'
Also known as: Batik Nerite Snail, Batik Snail
Origin: Southeast Asia
Clithon sp. 'Batik' is a small but visually captivating freshwater nerite snail with a rounded shell adorned with complex, irregular patterns of yellow, black, brown, and cream that resemble traditional Indonesian batik fabric. No two specimens are patterned identically, making each one a unique addition to the aquarium. It grazes efficiently on diatoms and algae from hard surfaces and, like all nerites, cannot reproduce in freshwater.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–15, KH 3–8; moderately hard alkaline water preferred. Tank: minimum 20 L, smooth rocks, driftwood, and glass surfaces for grazing; secure lid. Feeding: diatoms, algae, biofilm; supplement with algae wafers if algae supply is low. Behaviour: peaceful algae grazer; active on all hard surfaces. Compatibility: fully peaceful; excellent with shrimp, fish, and other snails.
