Apistogramma pulchra lives up to its Latin name in every respect, being one of the most visually striking members of the genus. It is found in the Rio Xingu drainage of Brazil where the water is warm, soft, and slightly acidic. Males display intense metallic body scaling and vivid fin coloration that makes this species highly sought-after by collectors.
Water: 25-30°C, pH 5.0-6.8, soft (GH 1-6). Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, caves, driftwood, and dense planting. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen foods preferred; quality cichlid pellets. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; harem setup (1M:2-3F) recommended. Compatibility: peaceful community with small tetras and Corydoras.
