Bellamya purificata
Origin: East Asia
Bellamya purificata is a medium-sized freshwater snail from East Asia with a smooth rounded shell in dark olive to brownish-green. A live-bearing snail, it serves as an effective algae and detritus consumer in larger freshwater aquariums. Its calm slow-moving nature makes it compatible with nearly all community fish and invertebrates.
Keep in groups of 3+ in well-established tanks. Provides natural algae and detritus control. Ensure pH stays above 7.0 to prevent shell erosion. Supplement with blanched vegetables and calcium sources (cuttlebone). Avoid copper-based medications. Will breed slowly in captivity — population stays manageable due to live-bearing nature.
