About

Austrolebias bellottii is one of the larger and more widely distributed Austrolebias, found in temporary pools across the La Plata basin in Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. Males display a deep blue body sprinkled with silver-white spots and vivid blue-edged fins, while females are attractively mottled in brown. Its greater size and relatively robust constitution make it one of the better entry-point annual South American killifish.

Care Guide

Water: 15–22 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard; cool water essential. Tank: 40 L species tank; peat substrate; secure lid mandatory. Feeding: Live and frozen Daphnia, Artemia, blood worm; quality pellets accepted. Behaviour: Males territorial and may be aggressive to females; keep trio. Compatibility: Species tank only.
