Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Origin: Captive bred (Japan/Netherlands)
Benigoi is a Gosanke-adjacent single-colour variety of nishikigoi displaying a pure, deep red to orange-red uniform body colouration. It is prized among Dutch and Belgian koi purists for the quality and depth of its hi (red) pigment rather than pattern complexity. Simple in pattern but demanding in terms of colour quality, Benigoi is a staple of serious Nishikigoi collections.
Requires a well-filtered pond of at least 1,000L. Maintain good water quality with regular filter maintenance. Feed quality koi pellets appropriate for season — reduce feeding as temperatures drop below 10°C and stop below 6°C. Provide shade areas and at least 1m depth for winter. Monitor for common koi diseases.
