Benthochromis tricoti

Benthochromis tricoti is an obligate deep-water species from Lake Tanganyika typically found at depths below 30 metres. Its sleek, laterally compressed silver body and elongated dorsal and caudal fins are distinctive. A pelagic mouthbrooder that schools in the deep open water, it is rarely imported and requires dedicated care including stable cooler temperatures and very large aquariums.
Water: 23-26°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; very stable parameters critical. Tank: 300L+ minimum; tall aquarium with open water; minimal furniture. Feeding: Quality carnivore pellet, frozen krill, lance fish; will not compete aggressively for food. Behaviour: Peaceful shoaling species; one dominant male; maternal mouthbrooder. Compatibility: Cyphotilapia frontosa, Paracyprichromis nigripinnis; no aggressive species.
