About

Benthochromis tricoti is an obligate deep-water species from Lake Tanganyika typically found at depths below 30 metres. Its sleek, laterally compressed silver body and elongated dorsal and caudal fins are distinctive. A pelagic mouthbrooder that schools in the deep open water, it is rarely imported and requires dedicated care including stable cooler temperatures and very large aquariums.

Care Guide

Feeding: Quality carnivore pellet, frozen krill, lance fish; will not compete aggressively for food. Behaviour: Peaceful shoaling species; one dominant male; maternal mouthbrooder. Compatibility: Cyphotilapia frontosa, Paracyprichromis nigripinnis; no aggressive species.
