Ptychognathus sp.
Also known as: Berry-nose Crab
Origin: Southeast Asia
Ptychognathus sp. Berry-nose Crabs are small and personable freshwater crabs distinguished by a small rounded rostral bump on the front of the carapace that gives them their common name. They are semi-terrestrial and adapt well to paludarium environments with both shallow water and humid land areas. Males can be territorial with each other but females and males often coexist with adequate space and hiding spots.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 6–15, KH 3–8; semi-terrestrial; land access essential. Tank: minimum 40 L paludarium, moist soil land area, shallow water, hiding rocks. Feeding: sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, fruit, detritus, small invertebrates. Behaviour: active and curious; semi-terrestrial; males territorial. Compatibility: keep pairs or harems; not shrimp-safe; best in species or paludarium setup.
